Socotra Island is one of a small chain of four islands are found in the Indian Ocean, and is part of the Republic of Yemen. Socotra has pristine beaches, mountains and caves uniquely awful fun to taste every trip. Socotra Island is most famous for its unique plant life, and one-third of the plants found on the island found nowhere else on the planet. Be prepared to venture into foreign film set.
Socotra Island located about 380 km south Arabian Peninsula and 240 km east Horn of Africa. For a hobby and fun vacation, Socotra Island can be challenging locations. One of which is characteristic of the Socotra island is the Dragon Blood Tree (Dracaena cinnabari), is a strange tree shaped like an umbrella. This tree has red sap like blood dragon. Residents here take advantage of dragon's blood resin as a cure. Also used as a paint and varnish. Other endemic flora is Dorstenia, Dendrosicyos (cucumber) and protopunica Punica (pomegranate).
Socotra island also has endemic fauna Aves such as the Socotra Starling Onychognathus brothers, Nectarinia balfouri Socotra Sunbird, Socotra Sparrow Passer insularis and Socotra Grosbek Rhynchostruthus socotranus. Bats become endemic mammals in the caves of Socotra Island, as well as coral reefs that surround the island.
Looking at biodiversity and vegetable that is so unique of this island, Socotra Island as a UNESCO recognized world natural heritage site in July 2008. Therefore, any regulations made from start limit housing construction, construction of hotels for tourist, sewer construction, flora fauna imports, up to limit population growth. This is solely to protect the unique island of damage possibilities created by humans.
