Recently I visited this temple when I was in grade 3 elementary school, when it was over I was 8 years old. Yups, the name of this temple is Borobudur , surely all already know about this temple, this temple is very famous in Indonesia even in the world. Because of the beauty of the building, many tourists who visit this temple. Since 1991, the Borobudur Temple designated as World Wonder Heritage by UNESCO.
Located in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia. And if the distance from Big city, the location of this temple is about 100 km southwest of Semarang, 86 km to the west of Surakarta, and 40 km northwest of Yogyakarta.
Here's a glimpse of the history of this temple, Borobudur was built around 800 AD or the 9th century. Borobudur was built by the followers of Mahayana Buddhism during the reign of Wangsa (same as dynasty) Syailendra. The temple was built in the heyday of the Syailendra Dynasty. Founder of the Borobudur Temple, King Samaratungga originating from Syailendra Dynasty. The possibility of this temple was built around 824 AD and was completed around the year AD 900's during the reign of Queen Pramudawardhani who is the daughter of Samaratungga. While the architects who contributed to build this temple according to a story passed down through generations named Gunadharma.
There is no written evidence that older who gave names to the temple of Borobudur. Only one of the oldest documents that show the existence of this temple is Nagarakretagama book, written by the MPU Prapanca in 1365. In the book is written that this temple wasused as a place of Buddhist meditation. Meaning of the name Borobudur is "monastery in the hills", which comes from the word"bara" (temple or monastery) and "beduhur" (hills or high places) in Sanskrit. Therefore,in accordance with the meaning of the name Borobudur, so this place long ago used as a place of Buddhist worship.
The monument comprises six square terraces on which there are three circular courtyard,the walls adorned with original 2672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues there. The main stupa in the middle of the largest teletak once crowned this building, surrounded by three rows of round 72 perforated stupas in which there are statues of Buddha sitting cross-legged in the lotus position perfectly with the mudra (hand position) Dharmachakramudra (turning the wheel of dharma).
With all the grandeur and mystery that is, only natural that many people from all over the world enter the Borobudur as a place to visit in his life. Besides enjoying the temple, you can walk around all the villages around Borobudur, as Karanganyar and Wanurejo to seepeople make a craft activity. You can also go to the top watu Kendil to be able to view panorama from the top of Borobudur.
